Meditation Drawings 2002-2014
An ongoing and parallel practice that began in 2002, the Meditation Drawings, are a series of drawings that each consist of 2 layers of duralar and ink. The bottom layer is a randomly and intuitively generated pattern of eyes in 4 directions. The upper layer is a pattern made up of colored dots that erase three of the directions leaving only one visible. The dark spots are the mistakes in the pattern. The final code-like image reveals human error and where attention lapsed. The process of making the drawings is a working meditation, and like DNA, it is ongoing, relentless, a simple process of copying with variations arising through the errors in copying. Form is found through the process of repetition over time.
