Surprised to see the Biennial so shamelessly embracing the “Brand” as you can see in the photo!

I was in NYC for 5 days and did manage to see some great stuff. Highlights: Guston Drawing show at the Morgan Library. “Dargerism” at American Folk Museum, Louise Bourgeios at Guggenheim and Olaffur Elliasson at MOMA and PS1.

The New Museum is free on Thursday nights after 7pm and open until 10pm. Paul Chan’s 7 Lights was worth waiting to see. It was beautiful and haunting. The very large space made Tomma Abt’s small paintings glow.

Olaffur Eliasson was all the rage in NY with the recent opening of the Waterfalls in the East River. His work makes community through interaction with light effects in space. These are not spiritual or solo experiences ala Turrell–but places to interact with others. The pieces that work best: circulating fan at Moma, Yellow hall at Moma, and “Beauty: at PS1–are seemingly simple yet haunting and uncanny. See following images:
